# The day's arc bar

> How to read the gradient bar at the top of every Daily Recap.

The horizontal gradient bar at the top of every [Daily Recap](/macro/daily-recap). It's the visual story of how the [quant score](/concepts/quant-score) moved through the trading day.

## How to read it

**Time runs left to right:**

| Position | Time (ET) |
| --------- | ------------------------------- |
| Far left | 8:00 AM (pre-market) |
| \~15% | 9:30 AM (cash open) |
| \~40% | 12:00 PM |
| \~80% | 4:00 PM (cash close) |
| Far right | 6:00 PM (post-market wind-down) |

**Color encodes the score at each moment:**

| Color | Score range |
| ------------ | ------------------------------- |
| Bright green | +0.5 or higher (strong risk-on) |
| Light green | +0.2 to +0.5 (mild risk-on) |
| Orange | −0.2 to +0.2 (neutral) |
| Light red | −0.5 to −0.2 (mild risk-off) |
| Bright red | below −0.5 (strong risk-off) |

## What to look for

* **Smooth left-to-right gradient** — the day had one direction. Cross-check with the [day type](/concepts/day-type) badge.
* **Color flip mid-day** — a regime shift, often newsy (rate decision, geopolitical headline, big earnings, CPI surprise).
* **Bright color compressed at one end** — most of the day's drama happened in a small window.
* **Bar ends short of the right edge with a vertical white line** — today's intraday recap. The white line is "now."
* **Bar fills end-to-end** — past day, complete.

## A quick example

A bar that starts green, oscillates through orange around 11AM, then deepens into red by 3PM tells a "morning rally faded into close" story — almost certainly tagged **Reversal (Failed)** or **Trending Down**, depending on how strong the morning was.
